Field guide No. 1167
Quiet seal, glass whiskers
Fragile, and asleep.
A grey spotted seal sleeps on a harbour slipway with long glass-tube whiskers spilled across the concrete in front of its nose. It had no complaints until it rolled over.
Field noteGlass tubes stand in for whiskers, spilled on the slipway. Asleep, the seal is unbothered.
Also possible, also breaking material
Salt keeps scorePawprints in the salt crust are filled with starry black. Whatever walked here took night with it.
Water scroll unrolling through the reed bedStreamwater rolls up into a clear glassy bolt and unwinds flat downstream through the misty reeds.
Eight loose endsSpiders are built of legs and silk, never wool. This one was knitted, apparently.
Flattened bottle, upright neckGlass flows, slowly, if you wait a few centuries. This bottle waited an afternoon and kept its neck.
