Field guide No. 1405
Water scroll unrolling through the reed bed
Rolled out like a carpet
A misty stream runs through a reed bed, and the water is rolled up into a glassy cylinder that unrolls downstream as it goes. Somebody is laying the river out a length at a time.
Field noteStreamwater rolls up into a clear glassy bolt and unwinds flat downstream through the misty reeds.
Also possible, also breaking material
Velvet rain over an empty fieldRed velvet threads fall from the sky and pile in heaps. Weather made of fabric is unlikely, yet describable.
Vanished radio mast, hollow rust shellOxide can keep a girder’s shape after the steel goes, but flakes that thin should never hold a tower up.
The softest fossil in the abyssFossils are bone turned to stone. This one turned to smoke and has somehow kept its shape for ages.
Molted basalt, amber huskRock can break into a thin crust as it weathers. The basalt has shed a coat, very slowly.
