Field guide No. 1166
Quiet migration
Moving on, one crack at a time.
A long scaled strip of dried, cracked mud on a wet tidal flat is fringed with small legs along its edge, crawling forward. The mudflat is not stationary this season.
Field noteCracked mud crawls on little legs across the flat. The ground has chosen a new address.
Also possible, also breaking category
Ants stitch a cracked boulderAnts do carry and build. Sewing granite shut with grass is a tailor’s job at a quarry’s scale.
Dandelion through the bucketA dandelion grows through a rusted bucket. The flower has taken over the lease.
Torn leaf, emerging butterfliesA torn leaf edge turns into butterflies of its own colour. Moths do mimic leaves; none are born from one.
Field notesTerraces are carved hillsides; pages are carved trees. Read generously, it is a sculpture of a farm.
