Field guide No. 681
Knotted ridge in the desert
Tied to remember something.
A long arch of red sandstone runs across the desert and is tied in an overhand knot in the middle, with the sky showing through the loop. Whatever it was meant to remember, it was a while ago.
Field noteSandstone arches are carved by wind. Wind has not been known to tie one in a knot and leave it.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Looping bubble knot underwaterDolphins blow bubble rings that hold their shape. This stream simply chose a harder loop.
The magnetic hedgehogSpines aren’t iron. Pulling washers into field lines takes a magnet the hedgehog isn’t.
Trilobite emerging from its fossil imprintTrilobites lived and fossils exist. One getting up out of its own print is the only part nature hasn’t tried.
Borrowed horizon over tussock plainA hillside skyline tilts sharply above a flat plain. The slope was borrowed and not returned.
