Field guide No. 757
Trilobite emerging from its fossil imprint
Back, after a long lie-in.
On a slab of grey stone, a living trilobite climbs out of its own fossil impression, the empty print still behind it. It has missed a few things.
Field noteTrilobites lived and fossils exist. One getting up out of its own print is the only part nature hasn’t tried.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Between floorsA stair can be built in a loop; walking it is the problem. Engineers would allow it, feet would not.
Cherry blossoms along exposed rootsBlossom opens on twigs, where bees can see it. On this tree it opens along the bare roots instead.
A small disagreement at duskThe walls curl toward each other without meeting. The argument has been postponed.
Still listeningSound ripples the walls of a pipe, frozen mid-note. A trumpet waits, and so does the answer.
