Field guide No. 682
Last light held in granite
Keeping the evening a bit longer.
On a dark moor under the first stars, one granite boulder still glows orange on its western face, lit by a sunset that ended some time ago. Everything else has gone to bed.
Field noteSome stones store heat after dark. This one stores the sunset itself, colour and all.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Red dust footprints on blue iceFootprints in red dust are ordinary. Up a vertical glacier, barefoot, they are only gravity’s problem.
Against the grain: tangled badlands strataRock does fold under pressure, though rarely into a tangle with tidy layers above and below it.
Comet tail snagged on antennaA tail caught on an antenna is gravity behaving badly. The skywide snag is otherwise coherent.
Earth gathered in every foldRed soil and stones settle into the folds of a hanging sheet. Laundry day wants a shovel.
