Field guide No. 1485
Separation anxiety
Every colour left at once
A puddle on concrete has come apart into standing rings of yellow, magenta and cyan, with the black water left in the middle. Printers call it misregistration; the puddle calls it needing space.
Field notePuddles hold their inks mixed; this one stood each plate up as a wall and kept the black for itself.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Broken terracotta vessel suspended in red dustA cracked clay pot dissolves into red dust held in mid-air. The restorer went on a break.
Hay bale with a hollow middleHay is pressed tight and tears when pulled, but these straws stretch across the gap like taffy.
Snail’s trail of springSlime is just slime. Flowers sprouting from it in seconds is spring on fast-forward.
Suspended snow in a bare orchardSnow does settle on branches. Settling in a heap the size of a cloud, with no branch under most of it, is the stretch.
