Field guide No. 1484
Salt of the earth
The sink melts round the salt
A heap of salt sits in a steel utility sink whose metal has gone liquid and swirls around it, opening holes. Salt was meant for the roads.
Field noteSteel corrodes slowly under salt; this basin skipped the decades and started whirlpooling round the heap.
Also possible, also breaking material
Pomegranate seeds turn to stoneSeeds leave the fruit red and land grey. Somewhere in mid-air they became gravel.
Starry blackberries on a thorn branchRipe blackberries hold starfields and a spiral galaxy. The red ones are merely unripe.
A honey filled running laneHoney pours and sets in any trough; a running track’s kerb is just a long enough mould.
Lion with a brass key maneManes are hair. Keys hung in their hundreds are a locksmith’s idea of grooming.
