Field guide No. 1447
Hay bale with a hollow middle
Stretched to the middle
In a dim barn, a round hay bale has been pulled into two halves, still joined by long straight straws spanning the gap. Neither half will admit to being the bale.
Field noteHay is pressed tight and tears when pulled, but these straws stretch across the gap like taffy.

Geese beneath their floating feathersBirds moult, and the feathers fall. These hover above the flock and follow it south.
