Field guide No. 470
Self-suspended tree in a sinkhole
Hanging on by nothing.
Looking up from the bottom of a deep sinkhole, a whole uprooted tree floats sideways across the open sky, roots and branches spread. It fell in and then thought better of it.
Field noteA tree over a sinkhole either holds on or falls in. This one does neither, with nothing to grip.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Autumn in the tree’s shadowShade can cool a lawn, not change its season. Still nothing here argues with itself.
Geese carve green furrows through cloudsGeese leave nothing behind but noise. These plough the clouds in rows, neat enough to sow.
Return to natureErasers are real and remove things. Turning tarmac into meadow is beyond rubber’s brief.
Private weatherSmall sparks are allowed; static manages them daily. Inside a snail shell they are merely misplaced.
