Field guide No. 1227
The sleep of stones
Do not wake the quarry.
Blocks of pale rock sit in smooth round dips across a quarry floor, as though the ground had sagged to make them comfortable. Nobody has dared to ask for a quieter site.
Field noteBoulders cradled in smooth dips as if the ground gave way for them. Quarries do not do this; nothing here forbids it.
Also possible, also breaking physics
A horizontal hourglass defies gravityHourglasses stop when laid flat; this one pours sideways and even leaks a trickle past the glass.
Dunes defying gravityLoose sand slumps to its angle of repose. These walls ignore the angle entirely.
Sardine whale in an empty warehouseSardines shoaling in the air of a warehouse, in a whale’s outline. Plenty of room, no water at all.
Wake that won't closeA tugboat leaves a raised ridge of water behind it. The wake has not settled.
