Field guide No. 471
Shadow waterfall on dry limestone
Dry, but you can tell.
A tall pale limestone cliff has a dark, waterfall-shaped shadow running down its face and spreading at the base like spray, with no water anywhere. The waterfall left and its shadow stayed.
Field noteA shadow needs something in the light. This one falls down the cliff with nothing there to cast it.

Frozen campfire in an abandoned freezerA fire is heat or it is nothing. This campfire is frozen through, frost on its flames, and still a campfire.
Winter under glassA mirror shows what is in front of it. Showing frost that isn’t there makes it not a mirror, while being one.
A glacier opens to summerOne doorway, two seasons side by side, both in the same air. Winter and summer can’t share a threshold.
A dog dreaming of JulyOne pane shows a winter yard and a summer one at once. A reflection should at least agree on the month.
