Field guide No. 707
Ripples in the emerald felt
A very wet break.
On a snooker table a red and a white ball have landed in the green cloth and sent rings of ripples across it, with a wave of felt splashing up behind them. The pocket will have to wait for it to settle.
Field noteBaize ripples and splashes as if poured. The balls went in like stones into a pond.
Also possible, also breaking material
Waffle housewarmingGrid-faced apartment blocks are common enough. Batter is an unconventional render.
An open door in sandDunes move and doors don’t. A door cast in the dune’s own sand opens on a room the wind hasn’t filled yet.
Crimson ribbon, impossible asphaltA red strip snakes through cracked pavement. The road has been unstitched.
An orange with a second skinSegments wear their own dimpled rind while the peel ribbon is full of flesh.
