Field guide No. 708
Roots growing through broken terracotta
Outgrew the pot. Kept going.
A terracotta flowerpot lies on its side on a purple mat, split open with pale roots threaded through its walls and out the other side. Whatever was planted in it is gone, and the roots do not seem to mind.
Field noteRoots through clay are real enough; roots with no plant at the top are less so. The soil kept growing.
Also possible, also breaking material
The listening wallPlaster does crack in rings. Rippling like a pond is the material getting ideas.
Liquid blossoms in a sunlit brookSplashes fall back in an instant. These stand open in the brook as clear flowers.
A curtain made of shadowShadows on a bedroom wall fall in heavy folds. Cloth would struggle to drape this well.
Descending smoke solidifies into woodSmoke trails sink back into the charcoal and harden into pale twisted roots.
