Field guide No. 1266
An orange with a second skin
Peeled, and somehow still dressed.
A ribbon of orange peel curls across a grey floor full of fruit, beside an orange whose bare segments wear their own dimpled rind. Someone peeled it and it grew the coat back.
Field noteSegments wear their own dimpled rind while the peel ribbon is full of flesh.
Also possible, also breaking material
Northern seamsSewing machines need cloth; aurora is charged gas. A machine can try.
Amethyst seam through breakfastCrystal veins take ages to form in rock. This one formed through a loaf baked this morning and the worktop under it.
Butterfly wings beneath the snowAn orange wing lies partly buried in fresh snow. Winter has filed it under delicate.
Whisper between abandoned payphonesTwo handsets joined by a ribbon of clear water. Water is a poor wire, but it makes a connection of a sort.
