Field guide No. 577
Pomegranate in impossible assembly
Some assembly required.
A split pomegranate on a pink marble counter has its seeds lifted out and floating away in clusters on fine red threads, like a diagram of itself. The fruit's insides are a white honeycomb, with spare parts in the air.
Field notePomegranate seeds sit packed in pith. These hang in the air on red threads like an exploded diagram.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Silver fish in the projector beamFish swim along the projector beam as though light were a current. Their shadows are the film.
An elephant leaves square footprintsEach print behind the elephant is a neat square. Round was considered and declined.
Upward waterfalls in rice terracesPaddies pump water upward in arcs into the terrace above, so the hill fills from the bottom.
Clouds beneath the frozen lakeCumulus need open sky to form. Under ice they have nowhere to rise to.
