Field guide No. 460
Mud wave crashes through chainlink fence
Surf’s up, court’s closed.
On a cracked, sunbaked basketball court, a curling wave of thick brown mud breaks through a chain-link fence mid-splash. The fence was barely built for basketballs.
Field noteMud slumps, it doesn’t break like surf. This one curls into a perfect wave, inland, on a hard court.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Paper migrationPaper can be folded into whales; it cannot then go flying. The obstacle is aerodynamics.
The patient needleSteel does not root. Biology has turned down this application several times.
Basalt balanced on a soap bubbleBubbles burst under a fingertip, let alone a ton of rock. Unlikely, though not self-contradicting.
Knotted tornado over the prairieAir can’t hold a knot. This funnel has tied an overhand in itself and kept spinning.
