Field guide No. 496
Wolves herd the ocean waves
Keeping the surf together.
On a black-sand beach, grey wolves round up a group of small breaking waves like sheep, driving them along the shore. A few have strayed back to sea.
Field noteWaves go where the wind sends them. These are being herded up the beach like a flock.
Also possible, also breaking category
Zebra stripes slip to the groundMarkings sliding off like loose tape: hide doesn’t work that way, though nothing here contradicts itself.
White dandelion plume above rust-red lavaVolcanoes throw ash. Seeds are a meadow’s output, delivered by the wrong mountain.
Shell accommodationHermit crabs moved into shells long before anyone with a staircase did. Scale is the only holdup.
A small disagreementDomino pips are paint, not passengers. Letting them walk off is a category lapse, nothing worse.
