Field guide No. 717
Silver crescent in a bruised sky
Took a knock at sunset.
A thin silver crescent moon sits in a dark purple patch of cloud spreading through an orange sunset, ringed red and yellow like a bruise. The sky will be tender for a day or two.
Field noteClouds that colour like a bruise round a crescent. Skies only look hurt; this one took it literally.

Sideways through the black squaresBlack squares sunk into shafts make a board with holes in it. Several pieces have already been lost.
Loose teethChalk blocks lie beside socket-shaped hollows in the cliff face; the cliff keeps count of what it loses.
MoltVending machines don’t grow, so shedding a casing to step out one size smaller is backwards twice.
Cherry-filled vintage hole punchPunched paper makes paper dots. Cherries in the tray are a punch with a fruit sideline.
