Field guide No. 495
Winged refractions in honeysuckle
See-through, sort of.
At dusk in a honeysuckle hedge, pale moths fly on wings of clear glass that bend and magnify the flowers behind them. They are very hard to swat.
Field noteMoth wings are dust and membrane. These are glass lenses, which flutter badly but focus well.
Also possible, also breaking material
Goosebumps on peach plasterPlaster doesn’t feel the cold. These walls have skin, and the hairs on it stand on end.
Lightly dressedAny leaf can hang over a bulb. Few lampshades wilt by Thursday.
A suitable pauseBenches are wood, water is wet, and neither rule forbids the other. The greyhound has not asked.
A stitch in porcelainThread through china would need holes the needle can’t make. Stubborn, not contradictory.
