Field guide No. 494
Where the fox was
Impression left.
In cracked desert rock, a hollow holds the perfect imprint of a curled-up sleeping fox, ears, tail and fur all pressed into stone. The fox is gone and the rock remembers.
Field noteStone takes prints only over ages. This one took a fox’s nap in detail and kept it.
Also possible, also breaking material
The fox’s snowy paper trailFootprints are marks pressed into snow. These are folded paper standing on it.
A soft landingBrick and pillow have traded jobs, nothing worse: the clay took the give and left the marble to the bedding.
The ribbon quarryQuarries cut rock into terraces. Cutting satin the same way is waste, but legal waste.
Velvet waterfall in an empty theatreFabric doesn’t fall like water, but a lot of fabric falling is merely expensive.
