Field guide No. 281
Sandstone coats in a seaside changing room
Hang your coat, it’ll keep for millennia.
In a pale blue changing room open to the beach, three coats hang on a rack, each carved in banded sandstone, with a little sand drifting under them. Nobody is coming back for them soon.
Field noteStone carved into a coat is just a sculptor’s idea of a cloakroom. Heavy, but coherent.
Also possible, also breaking material
Where asphalt unravels into woolTarmac is not knitted, and that is the only rule broken. Roads do fray; just not like this.
Lightly dressedAny leaf can hang over a bulb. Few lampshades wilt by Thursday.
The ribbon quarryQuarries cut rock into terraces. Cutting satin the same way is waste, but legal waste.
A suitable pauseBenches are wood, water is wet, and neither rule forbids the other. The greyhound has not asked.
