Field guide No. 452
Giant empty cicada shell on spillway
Moulted, and moved on.
On the concrete face of a dam spillway, an empty cicada shell the size of a car clings on, split down the back. Whatever came out of it is somewhere nearby.
Field noteCicada shells are thumb-sized. One the size of a car means something car-sized has hatched.
Also possible, also breaking scale
Thunderstorm under glassGlasshouses keep weather out. This one has grown a thunderstorm of its own under the roof.
Quack of dawnHot air balloons come shaped like anything with a sponsor. A duck is practically traditional.
Low tide on toastRock pools can be any size, starfish included. Bread is an unusual coast but a firm one.
Sleeping on the jobBobble hats knit to any size given patience and a crane. Industrial knitwear is just rare.
