Emerald rose in fossil stone
Still blooming after the fossil.
A slab of pale limestone has opened into the petals of a rose, fern fossils on each stone petal, with a fresh green rosebud wet with dew at its centre. The rock kept the flower going.
Field noteFossils keep the shape and lose the life. This stone rose kept the bud alive and wet with dew.
Also possible, also breaking material
The static filled deep endA pool brimful of black and white static. The tiles, ladder and board all hold; the water is what is missing.
Salt of the earthSteel corrodes slowly under salt; this basin skipped the decades and started whirlpooling round the heap.
Goosebumps on peach plasterPlaster doesn’t feel the cold. These walls have skin, and the hairs on it stand on end.
Fern emerging from shaleA fern can press into stone over time. This one saved the time and skipped the soil.
