Field guide No. 454
Goosebumps on peach plaster
The room is cold.
In an old peach-painted living room with one armchair, the walls are covered in goosebumps with fine hairs standing up from them. The heating is off, or the room heard something.
Field notePlaster doesn’t feel the cold. These walls have skin, and the hairs on it stand on end.
Also possible, also breaking material
Breathing earth beneath torn turfSoil is grit and rot. This is pink and layered like muscle, which hills are not supposed to have.
Towel peaksFolded cotton piles as high as you have cotton. The cable car is the ambitious part.
The bread remembersGeodes form in hollow rock; sourdough has hollows. The bakery would need several million years.
Sandstone coats in a seaside changing roomStone carved into a coat is just a sculptor’s idea of a cloakroom. Heavy, but coherent.
