Field guide No. 1073
An endless orange peel
Peeled in one go, over several fruit.
A single strip of peel runs from a half-peeled mandarin through a smaller orange to a smaller one still, on a cracked white surface. The fruit shrinks as it goes, like an argument.
Field noteA single strip of peel passes through three shrinking oranges. Each fruit is smaller than its argument.
Also possible, also breaking physics
An apple divided by timeOne half of a hanging apple is fresh and the other is brown and pitted. The orchard keeps two calendars.
Upward waterfalls in rice terracesPaddies pump water upward in arcs into the terrace above, so the hill fills from the bottom.
Clouds beneath the frozen lakeCumulus need open sky to form. Under ice they have nowhere to rise to.
Red receiver, concrete echoesSound rippled solid concrete into rings until the edge gave. A phone did it, off the hook.
