Field guide No. 236
A matter of taste
Mountain cake, sliced.
A round cake on a white plate is cut into neat wedges, each one a tiny green mountain range of moss and rock with layered earth beneath. Contains nuts, and possibly a valley.
Field noteMoss and rock layered on sponge is a terrarium with a cake slice’s ambitions. Inedible, still possible.
Also possible, also breaking material
Sound caught in a silver colanderSound has no shape to strain; glass ripples do. As sculpture it stands; as acoustics it leaks.
Knotical milesSmall boats ride waves; this wave is chunky knit. Wool makes poor weather, comfortably.
A softer landingOak is not upholstery. The floor is behaving like the wrong material, nothing worse.
Pillow-soft brickFired clay doesn’t dent under a head, as several heads can attest. Logically, it’s allowed to.
