Field guide No. 1611
Rust in peace
Shedding season at the dockyard
A blue steel girder by a wet dockyard has its rust lifting off in one long ragged sheet. It is moulting, and it would like some privacy.
Field noteRust flakes off in crumbs; here it lifts away whole like wet wallpaper in a breeze.
Also possible, also breaking material
Fermented files in green cabinetsPaper is pulp, flat and finished. These files have gone yeasty and risen out of the drawers.
Zebra stripes hanging from a fenceStripes can hang as fabric beside the zebra. The animal appears to have kept its own.
Black beams beneath the mushroomsToadstool stems run on as black steel posts through the cut soil bank.
Inside voiceTerracotta pots hold roots in, but this one has grown roots of baked clay through the concrete.
