Field guide No. 1523
Vanished radio mast, hollow rust shell
All rust, no mast.
A lattice radio mast stands in a desert basin, but it is only the rust: thin, torn orange skins in the shape of every girder, with no steel inside. The corrosion outlived the thing it was corroding.
Field noteOxide can keep a girder’s shape after the steel goes, but flakes that thin should never hold a tower up.
Also possible, also breaking material
Weaving ribbons in the currentClear water braided over and under itself between mossy stones. Currents do not weave, though they can loop.
Towel peaksFolded cotton piles as high as you have cotton. The cable car is the ambitious part.
Where the fox wasStone takes prints only over ages. This one took a fox’s nap in detail and kept it.
Woodgrain watermelon on an enamel tableRings can appear in watermelon flesh like tree grain. The seeds remain where they were.
