Field guide No. 1519
Unbroken trees through fog
The fog is where they swap.
In a winter wood, a level band of fog crosses every trunk, and each tree changes bark above and below it: birch on top, pine or oak beneath. The fog appears to be where the trees get exchanged.
Field noteGraft wood and rootstock differ all the time; it’s the knife-straight seam at fog height that strains belief.
Also possible, also breaking category
Cedar house pulled from a grassy hillsideHills are not chests of drawers. This one slides a whole cedar house out on runners, handle included.
Tied up for the afternoonA red fox sleeps on straw in a barn. The afternoon has been reserved.
Rain turns to feathersRaindrops become white feathers on the way down and land on the court.
The last drop of inkTaps deliver liquids and this delivers rope. Plumbing confused with haberdashery, not a paradox.
