Field guide No. 1235
The velvet fault
A seam with a lining.
A crack in a pink and grey cliff face is filled with a strip of deep red velvet running from top to bottom. Geologists would call it a finish, not a fault.
Field noteA cliff crack lined in red velvet from top to bottom. Rock does not crack in cloth, but the cloth fits the crack fine.
Also possible, also breaking material
Rippling water in trilobite fossilsFossil hollows fill with rain often enough. These held the shapes and the water.
Fermented files in green cabinetsPaper is pulp, flat and finished. These files have gone yeasty and risen out of the drawers.
Banana wearing a steel hex nutBanana flesh can bend around a nut. The workbench needs a less ambitious snack.
The egg’s long way homeStretched into a tube, still an egg, still commuting. Shells do not draw out like taffy, but nothing here contradicts.
