Field guide No. 400
The midnight library of biting books
Quiet, please. They bite.
In a wood-panelled library at night, under green desk lamps, dozens of books on the shelves have opened into rows of sharp teeth, and one snaps on the reading desk next to a bowl of sweets. Reading is at your own risk.
Field noteBooks have spines, not jaws. A shelf that bites back is furniture acting like an animal.
Also possible, also breaking category
Spool ferryAnything that floats can ferry. Wood floats; the spool merely kept its thread.
Clamshell cornflakes at breakfastClams in milk instead of flakes: wrong breakfast, perfectly possible clams.
Fire extinguisher of falling leavesExtinguishers hold foam or powder. Leaves are a refill for a different season.
Reef in a minorClear pianos exist and so do aquariums. Combining them ruins only the piano.
