Field guide No. 722
Snakes emerge from the woodgrain
Knots in the wood, and worse.
On an old wooden table by a window, three snakes rise out of the wavy woodgrain, their tails still part of the pattern in the planks. The table has been saying something for years.
Field noteWoodgrain lifts off the boards as snakes. Patterns in planks are not meant to have heads.
Also possible, also breaking material
Magenta within the leafA green leaf opens onto a magenta interior. The plant has developed a second colour scheme.
Black beams beneath the mushroomsToadstool stems run on as black steel posts through the cut soil bank.
Knotical milesSmall boats ride waves; this wave is chunky knit. Wool makes poor weather, comfortably.
The evaporated water shirtShirts get wet on the line. This one is made of the water, and drying will be the end of it.
