Field guide No. 715
Sideways red cable car
Going up, the hard way.
Over a misty forested gorge a red cable car hangs from a cable that runs straight down, vertical, the cabin tipped neatly on its side. Passengers are asked to stand on the window.
Field noteCables run up slopes. This one drops straight down the valley and takes the car with it.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Trilobite emerging from its fossil imprintTrilobites lived and fossils exist. One getting up out of its own print is the only part nature hasn’t tried.
Borrowed horizon over tussock plainA hillside skyline tilts sharply above a flat plain. The slope was borrowed and not returned.
Fog weighs down the fenceFog is mostly air with a little water in it, and still these fence posts are buckling under the bank.
Porcini dominoes in the mossMushrooms don’t topple like tiles; they rot where they stand. This row has other plans.
