Field guide No. 710
Scallop wing butterfly on blue rock
Flies like a shellfish.
A grey furry butterfly rests on dark wet rock by the sea, its wings two fanned scallop shells, ribbed in pink and cream with a thin translucent edge. It will be taking off any century now.
Field noteWings made of shell, ribbed and fanned. It has the colouring for flight and the weight for the seabed.

Oak leaves beneath pressed bubblesBrown oak leaves lie under clear glassy domes on a pool, displayed like a collection and loosely labelled.
The ant link chainAnts cling into one oval link of a rusted iron chain and hold the heavy links on either side together.
