Field guide No. 687
Moss wave breaking in concrete courtyard
Surf’s up, slowly.
A great wave of green moss rears up and breaks over a bare concrete courtyard, flinging clumps across the paving. At moss speed it should land some time next century.
Field noteMoss creeps a few millimetres a year. This bank has risen into a breaker and is mid-crash across the paving.
Also possible, also breaking physics
The ladder harvestWood that was a tree has decided to be one again. Carpentry does not usually reverse.
Light cut by lightTwo crossing beams pass through each other. Here one cuts the other, and the off-cut falls and bounces.
Revolving petals on alpine screeA red flower spins above a rocky alpine slope. The plant has found a way to keep moving.
Red glow in dry grassFrosted grass glows from within at dusk. A coal was kept, and nobody filed it.
