Field guide No. 1144
Molted moon on volcanic shore
The moon sheds, quietly.
A crescent moon hangs over a black volcanic beach, and in the surf below lies a pale cracked shell of the same shape. One of them has been cast off, and the other is still in use.
Field noteA crescent moon above and its pale cast-off shell in the surf; one of them is a husk and neither complains.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Every seat tilts toward a featherEvery theatre seat leans toward one white feather in the aisle. It drew the only full house.
Red dust footprints on blue iceFootprints in red dust are ordinary. Up a vertical glacier, barefoot, they are only gravity’s problem.
Against the grain: tangled badlands strataRock does fold under pressure, though rarely into a tangle with tidy layers above and below it.
Cobalt waterfire on autumn leavesBlue flame still burns leaves, however unhelpful the rain. Color does not contradict combustion.
