Field guide No. 564
Inverted courtyard of skyward porches
Look down. That's the sky.
Peering over a brick ledge into a deep courtyard, tiers of porches, doors and pot plants run down on every side to a square of blue sky and cloud at the bottom. The neighbours are all upstairs, downstairs.
Field noteCourtyards end in a floor. This one ends, at the bottom, in open sky.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Knotted tornado over the prairieAir can’t hold a knot. This funnel has tied an overhand in itself and kept spinning.
Shadow-tethered goat on slateA shadow can fall close to its owner. This one has been kept on a short lead by the sun.
Gravity defying stone hollowsHollowed boulders float above the dents they left, a tidy and entirely consistent refusal to fall.
The feather dented iron bellFeathers weigh next to nothing, so the dent breaks physics while the bell stays plainly a bell.
