Field guide No. 1576
Interior strata
Every era had a feature wall.
A quarry face is built of layered floral wallpaper instead of rock, each stratum a different faded pattern. The earth has been redecorated many times and stripped once.
Field noteWallpaper laid down as sediment, pattern on pattern, each age with worse taste than the one below.
Also possible, also breaking material
The fox’s snowy paper trailFootprints are marks pressed into snow. These are folded paper standing on it.
Fern emerging from shaleA fern can press into stone over time. This one saved the time and skipped the soil.
Wheelbarrow with an impossible hollow wheelOn a bare ring of a wheel rides a red wheelbarrow. With no hub it should fail; nothing in the picture says it does.
Draft copyGlass caught by the same draught as the curtain, bellying out of its frame like a sail.
