Field guide No. 671
Impossible dew in torn silk
Three drops, no net.
A spiderweb heavy with dew stretches across bramble stems, and three large drops, each holding a tiny upside-down garden, sit in round holes in the silk with nothing holding them. The spider has decided not to ask.
Field noteDew hangs off a web because the web holds it. These three drops sit in the gaps, held by nothing.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Spare breathPruned bramble tips exhale small clouds in the frost. The bush is warm and not telling anyone.
A fold in the afternoonWater does not peel. Logic has no view on it; fluids have a firm one.
The boulder’s raised echoA splash falls back in a blink. This splash of mud has set in the shape of the boulder that made it.
The pillow that bent steelA hydraulic press bends a steel plate around a white pillow. The cushion has been promoted beyond its job.
