Field guide No. 1310
Hedgehog with bubble tipped spines
Defensive, and also delicate
A hedgehog curls up on bare soil with a clear bubble balanced on the tip of every spine. The one animal nobody wants to touch is now also the one nobody dares to.
Field noteSpines end in clear bubbles that ought to pop on the first step.
Also possible, also breaking material
Butterfly wings beneath the snowAn orange wing lies partly buried in fresh snow. Winter has filed it under delicate.
Whisper between abandoned payphonesTwo handsets joined by a ribbon of clear water. Water is a poor wire, but it makes a connection of a sort.
Lightly dressedAny leaf can hang over a bulb. Few lampshades wilt by Thursday.
A soft landingBrick and pillow have traded jobs, nothing worse: the clay took the give and left the marble to the bedding.
