Field guide No. 648
Ember in the ice
Wedged in, still glowing.
Deep in a blue crevasse of glacier ice, a lump of glowing ember is stuck between the walls, red and black, and the ice around it hasn’t melted at all. It’s a long way to anywhere warm.
Field noteBurning coal at full glow, packed in ice that stays frozen against it. One of them is lying about the temperature.
