Field guide No. 353
Dust ripples in the bell foundry
Ringing, but in dust.
In a derelict bell foundry, a great bronze bell hangs low and the dust on the floor below it spreads out in rings, as if it had just been struck. Nobody has rung it in years.
Field noteSound can make dust dance on a plate. A silent bell setting the floor rippling is less convincing.
Also possible, also breaking physics
The unpicked noteSeeds get into pianos and some will sprout given light. Nobody has watered a Steinway yet.
Tiny flame, enormous gustA flame that blows a gale gets energy from nowhere. A physics outrage, a logical shrug.
The stag beneath a lightning treeLightning picks the quickest path down. Following a stag’s antlers is a stylistic choice.
The radish airshipBalloons are round and ride under baskets. Radishes are round and heavy, and should not.
