Field guide No. 536
Autumn forest fills an abandoned pool
Closed for the season. Literally.
An empty outdoor swimming pool with faded tiles and rusted ladders holds a dense autumn forest, the treetops level with the poolside. No diving into the shallow end, or the canopy.
Field noteSwimming pools hold water. This one holds a whole autumn wood, the treetops level with the tiles.
Also possible, also breaking category
Ants stitch a cracked boulderAnts do carry and build. Sewing granite shut with grass is a tailor’s job at a quarry’s scale.
Footprints becoming tiny tortoisesSmall tortoises follow a tortoise across dust. The footprints began an expedition.
Torn leaf, emerging butterfliesA torn leaf edge turns into butterflies of its own colour. Moths do mimic leaves; none are born from one.
Field notesTerraces are carved hillsides; pages are carved trees. Read generously, it is a sculpture of a farm.
