Field guide No. 537
Breeze lifted water over dry pebbles
The lake lifts its skirt.
At a lake shore, the edge of the water has peeled up like a glass sheet in the wind, leaving the pebbles and a tuft of grass underneath completely dry. Someone is checking for crumbs.
Field noteWind ruffles a lake. Here it lifts the edge like a sheet of glass, leaving the stones dry beneath.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Vertical water on cracked red clayA pane of still water stands upright against a clay bank. Water will not stand up; the twigs inside are fine with it.
A question of balanceSmall hippos exist and teacups exist. The cups surviving is the only unlikely part.
Starry night pockets beneath daylight cloudsNight comes all at once. Under these three afternoon clouds hang funnels of starry dark.
Daylight between the pagesAn open book casts warm light inside a train carriage. The next stop is a footnote.
