Field guide No. 331
Ammonite awakening on shale
Back after a short break.
On a wet rock shore, a fossil ammonite peels itself out of the shale as a living, orange-tentacled creature, leaving its print behind. It looks a little stiff.
Field noteFossils are what’s left after the animal has gone. This one came back for its body.
Also possible, also breaking physics
The magnetic hedgehogSpines aren’t iron. Pulling washers into field lines takes a magnet the hedgehog isn’t.
The ladder harvestWood that was a tree has decided to be one again. Carpentry does not usually reverse.
The patient needleSteel does not root. Biology has turned down this application several times.
The weight of SundayEars long enough to cross the floor are breeding gone too far. Basset owners won’t be surprised.
