Field guide No. 415
White dandelion plume above rust-red lava
Erupting, gently.
Across a dark volcanic landscape at dusk, a crater blows out a huge white plume of dandelion seeds instead of ash, drifting off on the wind. The evacuation is optional.
Field noteVolcanoes throw ash. Seeds are a meadow’s output, delivered by the wrong mountain.
Also possible, also breaking category
Black starlings burst from a bowling ballA bowling ball is solid all through. Being a flock as well is a second career.
Whale surfacing through desert sandWhales breach water. Sand is a solid that has never been told it can be swum.
Downhill unspoolingThread is white and laid in lanes; so are pistes. The groomers have merely taken the hint.
The starry egg in the cartonTaken as a painted egg, it passes. Taken as a carton holding the sky, it would be a different file.
