Field guide No. 402
The pond returns the rain
Sending it back up.
Under a full moon, a lily pond shoots its water upwards in hundreds of thin streams into a single dark cloud hanging over it. The cloud wanted it back.
Field noteWater rises as vapour, unseen. Streams shooting up into one cloud is the visible version.
Also possible, also breaking physics
Dust ripples in the bell foundrySound can make dust dance on a plate. A silent bell setting the floor rippling is less convincing.
Seasonal twistSnow on the peaks and blossom in the valley happen in any alpine May. The hovering pretzel does not.
The last unread snowfallBooks describe snow; they don’t usually issue it. The rest of the desk is perfectly ordinary.
Rain stitches the meadowRain that sews is weather with a trade. Unusual employment, no contradiction.
