Field guide No. 287
The missing beam
A gap in the picture, found on seat F12.
In an empty velvet cinema, the projector’s beam runs in solid glassy blocks with a section missing, and the missing piece lies glowing on a red seat. Somebody took the best bit home.
Field noteA beam of light is light. Solid enough to lift a chunk out and leave it on a seat, it’s also not.

A soap-sized desert in the mirrorThe mirror shows a different dish than the one in front of it, and a desert the size of soap. Two faults.
The painted fish leaves the framePaint in a picture and fish out of it, at the same moment. The seascape stays strictly two-dimensional.
A hole in the orchardDusk round the tree, full night through it. One sky cannot be both hours at once.
