Field guide No. 481
The fern that outgrew its husk
Not what the tree ordered.
On a bed of fallen leaves, a spiky conker husk lies split open with a long green fern frond unfurling out of it, the conker beside it. Someone swapped the contents.
Field noteConker husks hold conkers. This one held a fern frond far too long to have fitted inside.
Also possible, also breaking category
Chrome cart, amber huskMoulting is for insects; carts are made, not grown. A category slip with wheels.
Pumpkin seeds become black mothsSeeds turn into plants, given soil and months. Moths are a shortcut nature never took.
A message with some weightRadio dishes gather whispers from far off. This one is gathering a sand pile, and the message is mostly ballast.
Downhill unspoolingThread is white and laid in lanes; so are pistes. The groomers have merely taken the hint.
